Jacqueline Fernandez grew up in Bahrain, Manama. She is Sri Lankan and comes from a multiethnic background. Jacqueline Fernandez's mother Kim and father Elroy have both been Malaysian. Jacqueline is the youngest of two sisters and one older brother. In the wake of turmoil in Lanka, her parents were forced to relocate to Bahrain during the 1980s. After finishing the schooling in Bahrain she was awarded a Scholarship at University of Sydney to pursue an Media and Communications Degree in Sydney, Australia. As a lover of culture and languages, she joined Berlitz Language School, where she learned Spanish and honed her French and Arabic. Miss Sri Lanka 2006 won Miss Universe 2006 competition in March 2006. She also competed as Miss Universe 2006 also. The TV show she appeared on was founded after winning an award for the Miss Sri Lanka title. The show she hosts, Lanka Business Report, is about business in Sri Lanka. Padukone is the child of and badminton champ Prakash Padukone. Padukone grew as a child in Bangalore, but she came from Copenhagen. She played badminton at the national championships as a teenager but gave her sports career up to pursue a career as a model. Padukone has Mangalorean roots and is fluent in Konkani as her mother tongue. Padukone, a village within the Kundapura Taluk located in Udupi located in Karnataka State, India is where her family originates. Prakash Padukone was a badminton legend before retiring in the late 1980s. Her mother, a travel agency, also hails from this area.
